Youth Off The Streets is a not-for-profit youth services organisation that supports 12–24-year-olds experiencing or at risk of homelessness and complex disadvantage.
We walk alongside each young person as we seek to understand their needs and goals, and we offer the safety, support and education that helps them to realise their potential.
Our Cultural Support team works with all areas of YOTS to ensure the rights and needs of staff, young people and communities from diverse cultural backgrounds are reflected in all of our services and programs.
The Role
We are looking for casual Youth Workers to contribute to the daily running of our youth crisis accommodation in Marrickville and Erskineville. This involves assisting our young people to meet their personal goals, develop their capacity to manage personal challenges, make informed life choices and live with greater independence. You will be responsible for creating case plans, developing client’s life skills and making referrals as required to assist them to overcome their barriers, achieve their goals and build sustainable support networks.
The Person:
The successful candidates will have proven experience in youth work duties, and be able to build strong relationships with clients, external services and support networks. They’ll be passionate, committed and take a trauma informed approach to their work. The successful candidate will be a collaborative team member, possess a ‘can do’ attitude, and enjoy working as part of a dynamic team.
Essential criteria, including but not limited to:
Minimum Certificate IV qualifications in Youth Work, Community Services, Welfare or related discipline.
At least 2 years’ experience working with disadvantaged young people preferably in a residential care environment.
Demonstrated ability to utilise referral pathways; apply trauma- and developmentally-informed and strengths based approaches; and to achieve client outcomes
Demonstrated ability to work with Culturally Diverse clients and Aboriginal clients
Superior communication skills, including diplomatic and effective liaison and interpersonal skills, and written and verbal presentation skills including Microsoft Office and Excel
Ability to document, evaluate and report on tasks, service delivery and outcomes
Demonstrated planning, organisational and superior time management skills
Demonstrated experience and understanding of homelessness issues and its effects.
Understanding of confidentiality in relation to client privacy.
Knowledge of child protection legislation.
Current First Aid and CPR certificate
Desirable criteria, including but not limited to:
Diploma qualification in relevant field
Knowledge and experience of trauma informed practice (TCI)
Knowledge and experience in the youth sector, Specialist Homelessness Services and the Going Home Staying Home reform
Knowledge and experience working with CIMS

About Youth Off The Streets
Youth Off The Streets is a non-denominational community organisation working for disadvantaged young people who may be homeless, drug dependent and/or recovering from abuse. Youth Off The Streets supports these young people as they work to turn their lives around and overcome immense personal trauma such as neglect, physical, psychological and/or emotional abuse.
It is our goal that these young people will leave our care drug free, with a high school education, living skills and a full-time or part time job in hand.
