Our Nature & Natural Capital Strategy Division (NNCS) is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Policy Officer to join the Forestry Land use & Marine Policy branch, in an ongoing, full-time capacity.
A Senior Policy Officer will join the Marine Policy team, who is responsible for the oversight and coordination of DCCEEW’s responsibilities for the conservation and management of NSW’s marine estate. This is a great opportunity to work on a diverse range of marine policy and program matters around the marine estate, marine parks and marine wildlife.
The Senior Policy Officer will manage or contribute to policy development projects, provide advice on complex whole-of-government or national policy matters, including providing advice on complex policy issues, and conduct policy evaluations related to the marine estate.
Key responsibilities include:
- Working collaboratively to lead solutions to problems and provide expert policy advice related to marine conservation and marine estate management
- Rapidly developing high-quality advice for senior management and the Executive on a range of marine estate and marine conservation issues
- Supporting the delivery and implementation of the Marine Estate Management Strategy
- Contributing to threat and risk assessments for marine-related issues
- Providing input into the planning and management of marine protected areas
- Synthesising data and research on marine wildlife and delivering clear, well-informed written advice
About You
You are excited by challenging policy and program problems and are driven to deliver outcomes for our big blue backyard – our marine estate. Collaborating and influencing to drive results is paramount in our day-to-day efforts. You will work closely with internal stakeholders across multiple Groups and Divisions within DCCEEW as well as with external government agencies and stakeholders to implement Ministerial and organisational priorities.
This is an exciting and satisfying role where you will operate with autonomy and make day to day decisions relating to work priorities and workload management.
You will have proven capability in collaborating, communicating effectively, developing options to solve policy problems and project management. You will be adept at applying these skills to challenging policy projects and rapidly developing high quality advice for senior management and the Executive.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A strong foundation as a well-rounded policy practitioner
- Excellent analytical skills, combined with strong attention to detail
- A curious mindset and the ability to think critically and seek different perspectives
- Confidence in contributing to the development and delivery of ambitious work programs and working in an inclusive, engaged and high-performing team
- Willing and able to travel to metro NSW and other regional locations, as needed (approx. 1-2 times per quarter)
Key knowledge and experience includes:
- Understanding of the machinery of Government and the policy process or demonstrated ability to acquire knowledge quickly
- Experience in providing support and advice at the senior executive level
Essential Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent experience.
