About the Role

The Environmental Operations branch is responsible for the preservation, management, and enhancement of Council’s diverse range of environmental and recreational assets, and in partnership with our community, the rich biodiversity of the region’s landscapes. The branch plays an active role within Council, liaising with other units, as well as with the community, to maintain and deliver high quality environmental outcomes

Conservation Partnerships Officers work as part of a collaborative team to support and facilitate the environmental work of private landowners through the Voluntary Conservation Agreements Program, Land for Wildlife Program, and Landholder Environment Grants programs; and to provide professional environmental advice to Council Officers, Councillors and Community.

As a Conservation Partnerships Officer, you will:

Have a demonstrated understanding of the ecology of the Sunshine Coast region, including flora and fauna identification skills, and an understanding of the threatening processes and how to manage them.

A proven ability in project management and being able to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team.

A proven ability to provide sound environmental advice, recommendations, and extension services to both internal and external customers.

Implement the Land for Wildlife Program and associated incentives programs and member events for Sunshine Coast Council, and in accordance with the Land for Wildlife South East Queensland Program guidelines and plans.

Implement the Voluntary Conservation Agreement and Landholder Environment Grants programs in accordance with Council’s policies and procedures, including workplace health and safety requirements.

About you

As a professional in Environmental matters, you will have demonstrated sound knowledge of natural ecosystems of the Sunshine Coast, including flora and fauna identification skills. A good understanding of the threatening processes impacting on biodiversity values of the Sunshine Coast and the strategies needed to address them is also essential.

You will possess strong communication and project management skills which will be key to delivering positive outcomes in partnership with a highly collaborative team and the community. The ability to negotiate on-ground outcomes with private landholders is essential.

As a requirement of this role, you will possess either a tertiary degree qualification in Environmental Sciences, or an equivalent qualification and/or experience deemed appropriate by the Manager of Environmental Operations.

Appointment to this position is subject to completion of a pre-employment medical assessment.
