The Role
We are seeking a Full-time Project Supervisor to lead our traineeship team in practical on-ground projects. Working closely with vulnerable young people aged 17-24 from the Mareeba-Tablelands area, you will be responsible for the safety, welfare and supervision of trainees, helping them to gain training and experience in conservation and land management, whilst participating in projects that generate real benefits for the community. We are looking for someone who can coach, motivate, and prepare young participants for the workforce, investing in their development and supporting their transition into sustainable employment.

The Project
VPG’s Tablelands Trail Builders project provides paid employment opportunities to disadvantaged Mareeba-Tablelands job seekers while maintaining the Atherton Forest Mountain Bike Park. Two groups of 4 young people will work full-time over two 22-week periods, focusing on conservation, revegetation, and other environmental projects across the Tablelands region.
Project activities will include:
Track maintenance and improvements
Landscaping, horticultural maintenance of trails and trail heads
Revegetation, weed eradication, and creek restoration
Species surveys at Priors Creek
Community nursery including seed collection and propagation
Collaboration with community groups
Skill development and mentoring of trainees
We are looking for someone who
Has strong supervisory and team-building experience
Understands the challenges faced by vulnerable youth in their transition to independence
Demonstrates physical agility for operating equipment and performing labour tasks
Excels in time management, prioritisation, and resource organisation
Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to resolve conflict effectively
Has practical knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) standards
Ensures a culturally safe and inclusive environment
Maintains a positive attitude and composure in demanding outdoor conditions
Shows keen interest and capability in maintaining MTB and walking trails
Essential qualifications
Relevant qualifications/experience in Conservation and Land Management or related fields
Relevant qualifications/experience in youth work, education, community engagement, social sciences or related.
Valid First Aid Certificate
Valid Working with Children's Check.
Current 'C' class QLD driver's licence.
Agriculture Chemicals Licence, Chainsaw Operating Certificate, or capacity to obtain at your expense is highly regarded.
Salary
The base rate for this position depending on qualifications and experience is $85,000 per annum, plus superannuation and portable LSL. In addition to your remuneration, you will enjoy generous tax free benefits up to $15,900 and up to an additional $2,650 for entertainment benefits per annum, as VPG is a registered Australian Charity.
