About the Role and Team
In this HR Lead role at Mount Gambier Prison, you will be a visible HR business partner and cultural ambassador, championing and driving a positive, psychologically safe culture. You'll partner with leaders and staff to deliver commercial, pragmatic, and value-adding HR solutions that align with both our enterprise strategies and G4S Global HR Standards.
As a proactive and solution-focused member of our Senior Leadership Team, you will work side-by-side with our General Manager, Simon, who you will report directly to. You will also have a dotted line reporting relationship with our HR Director, Neonie, who is based in Melbourne.
This is a hands-on role where you will be an active member of the Mount Gambier Prison community. You will be a trusted advisor and problem-solver, providing healthy, constructive challenge to ensure we make the best decisions for our people.
In this role you will:
- Act as a cultural champion, leading initiatives to create an engaged, respectful, and psychologically safe workplace.
- Proactively manage and resolve HR issues at the source, particularly those related to performance management and staff relations, to prevent escalation.
- Coach and advise leaders and managers on people leadership, ensuring consistent application of policies and best practices.
- Contribute to the development of site HR strategies and their effective alignment with broader business objectives.
- Gather and analyse HR data to inform management decisions and track key metrics.
- Stay up-to-date with legislative changes to mitigate legal risks and ensure regulatory compliance.
What we're looking for
We're looking for a natural people leader with the right mindset and a passion for continuous improvement. You are someone who is not afraid to challenge the status quo, and who can effectively communicate a "no" when necessary. You understand people and know how to be a positive, visible influence in the workplace.
- You've got some HR generalist experience across all key HR functions.
- A proven track record of leadership, with a focus on coaching and developing others.
- Experience working within a complex or matrix organization.
- A commercially minded professional who assesses the impact and value of HR decisions.
- Excellent conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
- A passion for driving change.
- Happy to work both inside the prison to engage with and understand our teams.

G4S has operated Mount Gambier Prison (MGP) end-to-end since 1995, as a low to medium security campus style prison. Providing various work and education programs to male prisoners, our aim is to rehabilitate offenders and reduce re-offending. Accommodating 672 prisoners, our team at Mount Gambier Prison delivers safety, security, and respect for all prisoners in custody.
