Commis Chef – Full time

Job Description

We are seeking a Commis Chef to join our dynamic Kitchen team and contribute to our culinary success! In this critical role, you will assist our chefs in the preparation and cooking of meals from breakfast service to lunch and dinner operations. As a Commis Chef, you will play a key role in creating memorable culinary moments. Your passion for high-quality presentation and dedication to flavour will enhance each guest's experience. By maintaining a clean and organized workspace, upholding the highest standards, and contributing your culinary expertise to our menu, you'll help deliver unforgettable dining experiences for our guests.

Your responsibilities will include

Prepare, portion, and cook vegetables, meats, and other ingredients for a range of menu items, following standardised recipes and procedures

Prepare and assemble a variety of hot and cold dishes for all meal services, ensuring high-quality presentation and adherence to company standards

Prepare bulk ingredients, dressings, and sauces, maintaining consistency and quality of work

Efficiently manage your assigned section with regular inventory checks and maintaining stock rotation protocols

Maintain a clean and organised workstation, adhering to high food hygiene and safety standards

Collaborate effectively with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations while executing tasks with efficiency

Continuously develop culinary skills and knowledge

Report any issues or concerns to senior kitchen staff promptly

Contribute creatively to menu evolution by sharing insightful feedback and suggestions

The successful candidate will have the following:

Trade qualifications in Cookery IV

Certification in Food and Safety Certificate

Previous experience in the hotel industry (preferred)

Full working rights in Australia without restrictions (a kind reminder that sponsorship is not available for this role)

Service oriented with an eye for detail

Time management skills with the ability to multitask

Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with all levels of team members

Flexible availability to work a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays

Working hours 5:30am-1:30pm and 2pm-10pm

Hourly rate from $28.12 per hour

Kitchenhand position – part time

The duties will include:

Cleaning and sanitising kitchen equipment, benches, plates, glasses and utensils

Operating the commercial dishwasher and maintaining cleanliness in the back of house

Re-stocking, organising, packing away orders

Assisting chefs with basic food preparation

Garbage removal & control while following & maintaining recycling processes

Physical fitness as you’ll be on your feet most of the day. Sometimes you’ll need to lift, push and pull objects up to 20 kg – we have the equipment to support you and keep you safe.

Following all Food Safety and WHS requirements and be willing to obtain a Food and Safety Certificate

The ability to follow instructions and manage multiple tasks efficiently

A team-focused attitude, with good communication

Strong attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure

Flexible availability to work a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays

Morning shift is from 7am – 1pm and night shift is 5:30pm – 10:30pm.

Hourly rate from $25.85 per hour
