The Role
As the Integration and Transverse Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for providing the technical assurance of various whole of ship engineering design specialties, including but not limited to: complex, System-of-Systems integration; Ship Vulnerability (signatures); Survivability (shock); Maritime Aviation; and Physical Security. Part of a multi-discipline team, you will work with and lead specialists and be eager to expand your knowledge in domains beyond your core competencies. You will work with a diverse range of stakeholders, both within Defence and across industry partners; as such, you will be expected to engage on complex subjects at both a detailed technical level, and to present a summary position to enable risk based decision making at the executive level.
About our Team
The Hunter Class Frigate (HCF) will be one of the most advanced warships in the world with cutting edge technology and capabilities. As Australia’s largest shipbuilding project, HCF provides the foundation for Continuous Naval Shipbuilding in Australia. We are working with experts from the UK, USA, Canada and Europe to provide six frigates optimised for anti-submarine warfare to the Royal Australian Navy. The frigates are being constructed at the Osborne Naval Shipyard, South Australia utilising the latest production technologies. You will have access to generous working conditions as an Australian Public Servant in Defence. You will be supported in balancing work life with family and other priorities, with a variety of flexible working arrangements available. Information on Defence employees’ working conditions, including an attractive remuneration package with a generous superannuation contribution (15.4%), can be sourced from the Defence Enterprise Agreement.
Our Ideal Candidate
You should be someone who wants to expand their existing engineering skills and experience into the uniquely challenging Transverse Domain, recognising that your experience to date may not encompass all transversal areas. You should have a strong background in either Systems Engineering, Naval Architecture or Mechanical Engineering with substantial experience of system integration in the acquisition or sustainment of maritime or similarly complex systems. You need to be able to create and maintain professional relationships with both internal and external stakeholders and be able to work in a collaborative fashion with those stakeholders. As a leader, you should be comfortable with limited certainty and direction, taking a view of the situation and then providing informed advice, within the project’s context and constraints. You should have familiarity of working within a contract and be able to mentor and develop junior staff.
