Passive Fire Installer (Carpenters and skilled workers looking for something different!)
We are seeking a skilled Passive Fire Installer to join our team working across Tier 1 construction projects. The role involves installing, sealing, and certifying passive fire protection systems, with a focus on service penetrations, risers and bulkheads across wall/floor interfaces. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering quality installations that meet AS1530.4, NCC, and project-specific compliance requirements, while working safely and efficiently in high-profile commercial builds across South East Queensland.
Experience is not necessary. It is more important for us to have a self-driven and self-reliant worker who can fit in with our well established team, can take good instruction and then be left alone to handle the job as needed.
Passive fire is a niche construction role, required on almost all building sites. We are willing to take on carpenters or skilled workers looking to try something new and different. The business has been operating in south east Queensland for over 10 years, with a solid group of existing workers and management that have all been promoted up from within the business.
Key Responsibilities
-Install and maintain passive fire protection systems for service penetrations, bulkheads, shafts, and riser floors.
-Apply and finish fire sealants, wraps, collars, and boards in line with manufacturer specifications, including Promat, TBA Firefly, Trafalgar, Hilti and others.
-Read and interpret construction drawings, penetration schedules, and installation details.
-Ensure all work complies with National Construction Code (NCC), AS1530.4 and 4072.1 standards, and project ITPs.
-Accurately label and record completed penetrations for certification registers.
-Work within strict Tier 1 site safety systems, following SWMS, permits, and toolbox requirements.
-Communicate effectively with site supervisors, project managers, and other trades.
-Maintain high standards of workmanship and housekeeping on site.
-Identify and escalate variations, design clashes, or defects as required.
Qualifications & Experience (would be really good, but not a requirement. We are willing to teach.)
-Proven experience in passive fire installation, ideally on Tier 1 or large-scale commercial projects.
-Competency with service penetration systems (cable trays, pipework, ductwork, bulkheads, risers).
-Knowledge of passive fire products (collars, wraps, sealants, panels, intumescent coatings).
-Working at Heights, EWP, and High-Risk Work tickets (preferred).
-Understanding of compliance requirements under AS1530.4, NCC, and Fire Engineering Reports.
-Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Attributes
-Strong attention to detail and quality assurance.
-Reliable, punctual, and committed to safety.
-Clear communication and teamwork skills.
-Ability to follow processes and record work accurately.
-Positive attitude towards problem-solving and coordination with other trades.
