The Position
Under limited direction, the Manager, IT Procurement, Commercial and Sourcing is responsible for leading a small team that provides expert advice and support in the procurement of IT-related goods and services for the University. The role oversees a broad range of activities, including operational procurement, contract negotiation and management, policy compliance, commercial advisory, supplier relationship management, IT software and desktop hardware purchasing, and purchase order administration.
In addition to managing operational procurement, the Manager contributes to the strategic direction of IT procurement by supporting the Senior Manager, IT Procurement, Commercial and Sourcing in developing and implementing long-term strategies. The position requires strong engagement with senior staff across the University, working in close partnership with key Service Divisions such as the Procurement and Contracts Office and the Legal Office. The Manager also develops and maintains strong relationships with stakeholders across ITS, Colleges, Schools, and external suppliers to deliver effective outcomes.
The role includes leading, mentoring, and supporting team members to ensure high performance and professional growth. The Manager fosters a culture of accountability in IT contract management, ensuring compliance, monitoring supplier performance, identifying external trends, and providing expert guidance on procurement processes and strategic opportunities.
The Person
The ideal candidate will hold relevant postgraduate qualifications and bring extensive experience in procurement, contract management, and administration within a large and complex environment. A Certificate IV in Government (Procurement and Contracting) will be highly regarded. They will demonstrate proven expertise in managing the full procurement life cycle for strategic IT projects, including commercial negotiations, contract management, and providing high-level advice to stakeholders and senior leadership. Experience in reviewing and negotiating complex software licensing arrangements is essential, as is the ability to lead and supervise a small team to consistently deliver high-quality, customer-focused services.
Exceptional communication, negotiation, and influencing skills are critical, enabling the candidate to build and maintain strong professional relationships across diverse stakeholder groups. The role requires significant experience in IT procurement within a Commonwealth or tertiary institution environment, strong industry knowledge, sound problem-solving abilities, and the commercial acumen necessary to deliver effective procurement outcomes.
The Division
The Division of Information Technology Services (ITS) is the corporate service division responsible for the delivery of core information technology and communication services to the University. Major areas of focus for the Division include network, telecommunications, computing platforms, data storage, desktop and mobile access, cyber and digital security, application and integration services, enterprise systems, project delivery and business analysis and IT support services. These services are fundamental to business critical operations in all parts of the University, providing academic staff, students and professional staff with essential Information Communications Technology (ICT) tools. The Division works in partnership with our IT service providers in Colleges, Schools and Services Divisions in order to provide a consistent and seamless experience to support our research, education and public policy capabilities.
