The Role

As an ASD 4 & 5 Cloud Engineer, you will be required to coordinate and contribute to the work of a team consistent to a work plan and provide advice and assistance on methods of task completion to team members. You will work alongside a number of cloud engineers and contribute to the successful delivery of platform solutions in support of ASD capability.

As an ASD 6 Cloud Engineer, you will (in addition to the above) work independently with opportunity for reasonable autonomy and accountability for the achievement of outcomes of your work. You will work alongside a number of cloud engineers and contribute to the successful delivery of platform solutions in support of ASD capability.

The ASD 4, 5 & 6 Cloud Engineers work closely with the engineering teams and platform stakeholders to ensure the platform is meeting business requirements and functional specifications, including ongoing sustainment and technical feasibility of the platform. You will contribute to strategic planning and be accountable towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.

Key duties:

• Design, develop, deploy and manage cloud based infrastructure and applications.
• Proficiency and understanding of scripting, programming and automation tools.
• Knowledge of DevOps practices, containerization and continuous integration/ continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
• Optimize cloud performance and configure cloud resources, implementing security measures, automating processes, and ensuring system reliability and scalability
• Collaborate with stakeholders to optimize cloud environments, troubleshoot issues, and support the continuous delivery of software.
• Ensuring that cloud infrastructure complies with security standards and regulations, such as the Information Security Manual (ISM) and the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).
• Ensuring cloud infrastructure adheres to governance policies and compliance requirement including appropriate data protection and privacy controls.
• Remaining responsive and flexible, adapting as priorities change.
• Demonstrating interpersonal skills to foster and promote a positive and inclusive workplace culture that aligns with ASD values.

About our Team

Mission Data (MD) Division within the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) is responsible for providing the foundational data capabilities to support all of ASD’s functions. We do this via the provision of data platforms and services, management of ASD’s mission data, and providing complex analytic development and support, including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning capabilities. All roles within MD require extensive knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and ASD mission and policy requirements.

• Utilizing tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or AWS Code Pipeline to streamline development workflows.
• Ensuring compliance with national security regulations.
• Have a desire to work in a dynamic environment and willingness to learn.
• Display adaptability and a positive, inclusive attitude.

ASD 6 Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

Our ideal candidate will have:

• Experience in ICT solutions across hybrid and commercial cloud.
• Strong experience in network, security, storage and system engineering/solutions.
• Proficiency in multiple scripting and programming languages.
• Expertise in automation tools like AWS Cloud Formation, Terraform or Ansible and containerisation using Docker or Kubernetes.
• Utilizing tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or AWS Code Pipeline to streamline development workflows.
• Knowledge of cloud infrastructure using relevant ASD tools.
• Ensuring cloud infrastructure adheres to governance policies and compliance requirements.
• Robust communication skills, including the ability to explain complex problems to management.
• Have a desire to work in a dynamic environment and willingness to learn.
• Display adaptability and a positive, inclusive attitude.
