The Role

Are you an experienced engineer with a passion for things that go 'bang'? Are you looking for a meaningful engineering role to apply your skills?

An opportunity exists to join our dynamic and vibrant Defence team as an Executive Level1 Engineering Manager. If you are searching for new career opportunities with an agile, empowering, positive and open organisation, this role could be for you!

You will spend your days;

  • investigating, analysing and reporting on engineering concepts and risks;
  • managing, planning and delivering critical engineering activities;
  • providing advice to stakeholders;
  • mentoring junior members; and
  • enabling good inventory decisions with quality and timely engineering advice.

Your ability to analyse and apply systems of work, Government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements will be key to allowing you to deliver outcomes.

We are currently recruiting for a role located in either Penrith (NSW), Canberra (ACT) or Melbourne (VIC).

About our Team

Land Explosive Ordnance Systems Program Office (LEOSPO) is a key component of Land Branch, which sits within the Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance (GWEO) Systems Division of GWEO Group. Our team is made up of various disciplines (including engineering, project management, commercial, logistics, and corporate enabling services). We are primarily located in Penrith (NSW), Canberra (ACT) and Victoria (MEL), and our focus is to acquire and sustain guided weapons and munitions for the Australian Defence Force.

We are dedicated to providing our staff with a manageable work-life balance, and we support flexible working arrangements. We will also invest in your training and development to ensure your time with us is deeply rewarding, both personally and professionally. We are committed to achieving a workplace culture that is inclusive and diverse; one which directly reflects the needs and scope of Defence’s varied operational requirements.

Our people are capable, innovative, committed and diverse. We support an inclusive culture that emphasises respect and collaboration.

You will enjoy experiences and opportunities that, as an APS employee, you simply would not get with any other organisation. Other benefits include:

  • 15.4% superannuation;
  • access to personalised professional development pathways, including opportunities for Defence-funded post-graduate study;
  • additional leave days between Christmas and New Year;
  • focus on work/life balance; and
  • salary sacrifice opportunities.

Our Ideal Candidate

Join a mission-critical Defence team making a real impact.

Our ideal candidate will;

  • be a highly proactive and organised Engineer;

  • be a clear and concise communicator (written and verbal), strong leader and team player;
  • be able to analyse, interpret and apply engineering guidance, policy and regulations;
  • influence stakeholders and evaluate strategies to achieve outcomes; and
  • take the initiative to resolve issues by identifying and developing ideas through analysis of alternative courses of action, whilst identifying their implications and associated risks.

Defence is committed to recruiting the right people, in the right jobs, at the right time.
