Senior Project Engineer
About the opportunity
As our Senior Project Engineer you will lead the procurement and delivery of a portfolio of field investigation packages across Inland Rail's Northern NSW program. This role oversees geotechnical, environmental, heritage, and utility surveys, managing technical, commercial, and logistical aspects to ensure alignment with project timelines, budgets, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Lead the end-to-end procurement process for all field investigation contracts, including scope development, tender evaluation, and contract award.
- Manage delivery of fieldwork packages, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, environmental approvals, safety and quality standards.
- Lead a team of Project Engineers supervising contractors and consultants on site during fieldwork execution, ensuring adherence to project requirements and management plans.
- Monitor, report, and forecast cost, schedule, scope, quality and risk on investigation packages, implementing mitigation strategies as required.
- Manage contract commercials, including assessment of payment claims, disbursements and variations.
- Support stakeholder engagement activities, including negotiation of land access for field investigation works.
- Provide leadership and professional guidance to a team of Project Engineers to deliver their respective investigation packages within your portfolio.
- Contribute to project and Program safety requirements and initiatives and act in a safe manner befitting the safety requirements and culture of Inland Rail.
About You
To be successful in this role you will be a motivated project management professional who thrives in leading a team, bringing people together to solve complex problems. You bring a collaborative mindset, strong leadership skills, and a passion for delivering high-quality outcomes for the project.
You will be able to demonstrate
- Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience managing multidisciplinary works programs on large scale infrastructure projects, preferably in rail or transport.
- Strong understanding of procurement processes, contract management, and contractor supervision.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to manage competing stakeholder priorities in a complex project environment.
- Knowledge of work health and safety principles and relevant rail safety legislation
- Highly developed problem resolution and interpersonal skills.
- Driver's Licence - Class C
Desirable Selection Criteria
- CPEng/NER/RPEQ
- Experience in developing detailed Scopes of Work.
- Experience in procurement and tendering process.
- Sound knowledge of State & Federal Government Approval frameworks for significant infrastructure projects.
