Youth Off The Streets is a not-for-profit youth organisation that provides safety, support and opportunities for young people to build a positive future. We offer crisis accommodation and housing services, alternative high school education, alcohol and other drugs counselling, youth justice support, life skills and employment programs, cultural support and community engagement, among other services. We focus on early interventions that empower young people and strengthen communities.
Not all children and young people thrive in mainstream schools. Our registered and accredited independent high schools offer a flexible alternative for students in Years 9–12.
We operate six independent high schools that are registered and accredited with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). Youth Off The Streets is also a member of the Association of Independent Schools of NSW (AISNSW).
About the role:
Youth Off The Streets is looking for a Domestic, Family & Sexual Violence Educator and Support Specialist to join our DFSV Team on a fulltime maximum term basis at our school located in Cordeaux Heights for 12 months.
The role will support our accredited independent school located in Cordeaux Heights as part of a co-ordinated agenda for violence prevention.
Working alongside the Education DFSV Prevention and Support Team Lead the DFSV Youth Support Specialists will deliver The Power Within Program and support students and education staff.
The Power Within Program is an intensive program which aims to:
Prevent Domestic, Family & Sexual Violence (DFSV) as part of a co-ordinated agenda for violence prevention.
Provide early intervention for young people at risk of using abuse connected to domestic and family violence
Provide preventative education to identified vulnerable groups.
The program teaches young people, with limited exposure to healthy family and intimate relationships, how to identify and stop the cycle of Domestic Family & Sexual Violence (DFSV) whilst building their resilience (their “power within”).
Some of the key responsibilities include:
Deliver the Power Within Project in YOTS schools.
Engage with young people to discuss their powers within.
Provide best practice advice on DFSV and related issues to education staff.
Participate in community meetings focused on youth and DFSV.
Identify and collaborate with local DFSV prevention programs.
Coordinate services with local courts to support young people.
Work with Domestic Violence Liaison Officers (DVLOs) to provide integrated support for young people in our schools.
Determine appropriate referrals for students experiencing DFSV.
Facilitate conversations about the placement of services for affected students.
Respond to and manage coping plans.
Handle documentation related to ADVOs, APVOs, or FLOs.
Report serious incidents to line managers/DFSV Lead.
Complete Mandatory Reporter Guide (MRG) or Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) reports as required.
Stay updated on the latest data and trends in DFSV.
Collaborate with the wellbeing team in schools.
Maintain detailed case notes.
Identify and assess DFSV, child safety, and other risk factors.
Core Capabilities:
Strong understanding of the needs of youth experiencing DFSV.
Theoretical knowledge of working with individuals using abuse, survivors, or those surviving DFSV.
Familiarity with the DFSV Protection Act, relevant legislation, and confidentiality requirements.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Effective time management skills.
Proficiency in using Microsoft Office, email, web-based programs, and the ability to learn new applications.
The person we seek will ideally have the following:
Education Qualification
Essential: Minimum qualification Diploma in Community Services
Minimum Experience
At least 5 years’ experience in working with DFSV with youth and families
Certifications & Licences
Working with children’s check, police check, valid driver’s licence and full Australian working rights

Youth Off The Streets is a non-denominational community organisation working for disadvantaged young people who may be homeless, drug dependent and/or recovering from abuse. Youth Off The Streets supports these young people as they work to turn their lives around and overcome immense personal trauma such as neglect, physical, psychological and/or emotional abuse.
It is our goal that these young people will leave our care drug free, with a high school education, living skills and a full-time or part time job in hand.
