The Department of Communities brings together the services and functions of disability services, child protection and family support, community initiatives and regional services reform.
Communities is a nationally recognised Accredited Carer Friendly Employer through the Carers + Employers program. The program defines best practice standards by creating a carer friendly workplace, enabling staff to balance work and care, while continuing to contribute to the wellbeing of individuals, families and the community.
The Opportunity
As the Principal Project Officer, you will be responsible for leading the African Youth Justice Engagement (AYJE) project and the development of a business case, for a culturally specific model of the Target 120 program.
The project is intended to work with key stakeholders to identify current issues experienced by African young people who are at risk of engagement with the justice system.
The role will require community engagement, undertaking complex research, analysis and providing strategic advice to assist in shaping the business case for AYJE.
Target 120 is a 2017 election commitment to keep communities safe by providing 12 months of targeted and flexible supports to young people between the ages of 10 - 14 years who are at risk of becoming repeat offenders.
The program strengths are in its voluntary engagement, place-based, culturally sensitive, social and family environment focused approach to addressing the criminogenic needs of young people.
The team environment is agile, dynamic, focused on positive outcomes and delivering change across our target areas. Our team embodies the departmental values.
We achieve a culturally secure work environment and prioritise cultural awareness across our team to support and enable improved outcomes for Aboriginal staff, Aboriginal children, people, families and communities.
The attached Job Description Form (JDF) provides more information about the position. For further information we encourage you to contact Monica Montalvo, Manager (T120), on 0466 795 906.
