THE ROLE
As Suicide Prevention Project Officer, you’ll support the design, delivery, and evaluation of suicide prevention programs that are culturally safe, locally driven, and grounded in both research and community wisdom. You’ll work closely with Aboriginal communities, service providers, and stakeholders to strengthen local responses, build capacity, and foster healing.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Support implementation of suicide prevention initiatives across the Pilbara
• Build strong relationships with communities and service partners
• Coordinate and deliver culturally appropriate training and education
• Collect data, monitor outcomes, and contribute to continuous improvement
• Uphold cultural integrity and embed community priorities in all work
ABOUT YOU
We are seeking a passionate and culturally grounded Suicide Prevention Project Officer who will:
Qualifications and/or Experience: Hold a relevant tertiary qualification and/or have 3–5 years’ experience in suicide prevention, mental health, or Aboriginal health program delivery. Experience in community-led program design, advocacy, or strategic planning is highly valued.
Relationship Management: Demonstrate excellent communication, research, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work respectfully alongside Aboriginal Elders, Traditional Owners, and community members to strengthen local suicide prevention responses.
Sector Knowledge: Have a strong understanding of Aboriginal health policy, ACCHSs, and social and emotional wellbeing frameworks, with experience implementing suicide prevention initiatives in Aboriginal communities.
Cultural Safety: Show a deep commitment to cultural safety, embedding community priorities in all work and engaging respectfully with Elders and Traditional Owners.
Program Delivery Skills: Coordinate, implement, and evaluate culturally safe, evidence-informed suicide prevention programs, including training, education, and capacity-building initiatives.
LOCATION
This role is based in the stunning Pilbara region. Remote work may be considered for the right candidate, however regular travel within the Pilbara is required.
