The Opportunity
Join Moonee Valley City Council's dynamic Engineering and Capital Works Delivery department as a Project Engineer. In this role, you will be part of a skilled multidisciplinary team responsible for the design and delivery of civil infrastructure and active travel projects that help shape our city into vibrant, liveable neighbourhoods. Reporting to the Program Manager - Active Travel & LATM, you will manage projects from concept design to handover of construction, ensuring they meet Council standards, timelines, and budgets. Your expertise will contribute to developing both short and long-term capital works programs while ensuring sustainable and innovative engineering solutions that align with Council's policies and community objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform site investigations, design & drafting, procurement, site supervision and project management of various civil infrastructure and active travel projects.
- Provide accurate and effective civil engineering advice in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment.
- Oversee project financials, prepare cost estimates, and deliver projects on time and within budget.
- Coordinate and manage external consultants and contractors through tendering and contract evaluation.
- Ensure compliance with Council's Project Management Framework, standards, and relevant legislation.
- Ensure all capital works projects are designed and built to Council's standard drawings, guidelines and other relevant industry standards.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, contractors, and the community, to achieve project outcomes.
Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate will hold a tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, such as a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil), recognised by Engineers Australia, with some experience in project and/or construction management being advantageous. You will have demonstrated capabilities in site investigation, design drafting, and project supervision, combined with strong technical and interpersonal skills. You should have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and have a thorough understanding of municipal project management procedures, guidelines, standards, and legislation. In addition to these requirements, the candidate will show a willingness to pursue Registered Professional Engineer status under the Professional Engineers Registration Act 2019.
