About the Role:
The Child Safeguarding Regulator is responsible for promoting a child-safe culture within Out of Home Care services, ensuring compliance with child protection laws and best practice frameworks. Reporting to the General Manager of Quality and Practice, the role provides expert oversight, supports carers and staff, and ensures children are protected from harm. It involves collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders, leading training, responding to incidents, and driving continuous improvement. A strong understanding of legislation, cultural safety, and trauma-informed care is essential, along with the ability to balance regulatory compliance with child-centred practice.
Key responsibilities will include:
Ensures the organisation complies with all relevant child protection legislation, out of home care standards, and safeguarding frameworks by implementing and monitoring effective policies, procedures, and risk management strategies.
Monitoring, investigating, and responding to incidents, complaints, and harm reports in line with statutory requirements and organisational policy, while maintaining accurate and confidential safeguarding records.
Preparation of clear, high-quality reports for both internal management and external authorities, ensuring accountability and transparency in safeguarding practice.
Provide expert advice and guidance to staff and carers on safeguarding concerns, safety planning, and risk assessments, while promoting the rights, voice, and participation of children and young people, embedding trauma-informed and culturally safe practice across OOHC services, and supporting carers and frontline staff to consistently meet care standards and safeguarding expectations.
Deliver safeguarding training and induction for staff and carers, develop resources to strengthen safeguarding capability, and build awareness of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle and cultural safety practices.

Generous salary of $110,000 - $115,000 per annum plus superannuation

Requirements/Qualifications:
Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Youth Work, Community Services, Child and Family Intervention, or related discipline.
Extensive experience in child protection, out-of-home care, or safeguarding, with strong knowledge of legislation, OOHC standards, trauma-informed practice, and child development.
Proven ability to assess risk, respond to incidents and harm reports, and provide expert safeguarding advice.
Strong communication, engagement, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
Skilled in delivering training, developing resources, and building safeguarding capability across diverse teams.
Demonstrated commitment to cultural safety, including practical understanding of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle.
Highly organised, with strong time management, record-keeping, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
