The Role
The Child and Family Practitioner provides skilled support and supervision to children and young people living in Out of Home Care. This is a Full Time opportunity, working 8:30am-5:00pm Monday to Friday, with a monthly RDO. The role works in partnership with carers, government agencies and stakeholders to deliver casework, placement support and individualised care planning that prioritises child protection and wellbeing.
Practitioners use a trauma-informed approach, applying the CARE model to mentor and coach carers in responding to trauma-based behaviours. The position supports carers to strengthen their skills, while also working directly with children and young people to promote resilience, independence and positive life outcomes.
This is a varied and rewarding role requiring strong case management skills, collaboration across multiple stakeholders, and a commitment to ensuring safe, stable and nurturing environments for children and young people.
Role Requirements
Degree qualification in Social Work, Psychology or a related field
Experience in the child protection sector
Strong understanding of trauma, attachment and complex behaviours in children and young people desirable
Demonstrated experience in case management, assessment and care planning desirable
Ability to mentor and coach carers in trauma-informed practice
Excellent communication, negotiation and conflict management skills
Current Driver’s Licence
Ability to obtain and maintain probity checks including Working with Children Check and Criminal History Check
Remuneration and Benefits
Annual salary of $91,964.29 to $96,000 pending qualifications, skills and experience + 12% super
Monthly RDO
Fully maintained work vehicle with personal use allowed
