The Role
The Technical Officer Deployment (Materials) will undertake material and equipment preparation works for all Deployment scope of works.
The activities may also include providing supervision and direction for contractors and third-party vendors in relation to deployment, functions associated with VicTrack’s Telecommunications network during regular working hours.
The role is expected to be based at VicTrack’s Sunshine Warehouse for a number of days (minimum 2 days) each week.
Key accountabilities/functions:
- Review, manage and coordinate deployment requests for the preparation, issuing and distribution (as a package) of deployment materials as required by Deployment technicians when in the field or as specified by Project Managers, Designers and Deployment Team Leaders as required.
- Oversee and participate in the management and control of consumable materials (managed by Deployment) and non-consumable materials (managed by Network Transformation) in the central store on behalf of the Delivery team.
- Staging of devices at Sunshine store and working with Delivery engineers to configure configuration staged devices as per design.
- Scheduling the release of materials as a package and organise delivery of materials and test equipment as part of project works.
- Provide technical knowledge and undertake any activity related to installation and commissioning for the deployment of new telecommunication technologies throughout Melbourne and regional Victoria.
- Contribute to the identification of issues impacting the performance and integrity of the telecommunications network and provide input for solutions to address any issues that may adversely impact the operation of the network.
- Provide technical knowledge and support to implement innovative and cost-effective solutions to meet or exceed telecommunications operational business requirements or customer needs in a timely manner.
- Ensure that the appropriate Australian standards, VicTrack policies, processes, governance and standards and any Telecommunications practices are always adhered to.
- Provide input to the life-cycle management of telecommunication technologies, equipment and systems to support customer service requirements and maintain SLAs and the reliability of the network.
- Recognise shortfalls and suggest continuous improvements to internal processes, systems and technologies.
- Undertake training and upskilling as required.
Qualifications:
- Valid Driver’s Licence (mandatory)
- Rail Industry Worker certification (mandatory)
- Working with Children Check (mandatory)
- Telecommunication equipment installation and commissioning accreditation
- Rail Industry Train Track Safety Awareness – Level 1 or ability to obtain
- Rail Industry Safety and Environment Induction or the ability to obtain • First Aid (Level 2) Certificate
Knowledge and experience:
- Up to five years’ experience in a telecommunications environment or related industry
- Broad experience in multiple technologies – transmission, wireless, UC, telephony
- Demonstrable experience in project management, including budgets, or project co-ordination in a telecommunications environment
- Working knowledge of telecommunications carriers and their networks
- Experience in writing scopes of work for telecommunications environments
