About the Role
As the Teacher Aide, you will join our high school community, providing tailored support to students with disabilities including physical impairments, intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and other diverse needs. This role is vital in fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment, ensuring all students have equal access to education. The position specifically involves supporting a high-needs student with a physical impairment, with responsibilities including assistance with toileting and mobility around the school. Your presence will contribute to the student's independence, safety, and participation in daily school activities
Three temporary part-time positions (0.66 FTE) are available, each working 5 hours per day, 5 days a week, until 12 December 2025, unless otherwise determined.
Your Responsibilities
As the Teacher Aide, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Assist classroom teachers in delivering individualized educational programs for students with diverse learning needs.
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to students, facilitating their participation in classroom activities.
- Supporting and assisting students who require assistive technology to communicate.
- Implement and support behaviour management strategies in line with individual student plans.
- Assist with personal care needs, including toileting, mobility and feeding, as required.
- Support students during school excursions and extracurricular activities.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff to monitor and report on student progress.
- Maintain a safe and respectful learning environment.
Highly desired skills, qualifications, and experience:
- Highly desired, but not mandatory to hold a Certificate III or IV in Education Support or equivalent qualification.
- Experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting.
- Strong understanding of the needs of students with disabilities and in particular physical impairment, intellectual disabilities, ASD, and ADHD. This includes students who require assistive technology.
- Ability to implement individualized learning strategies and behaviour management plans.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Working with Children Check (Blue Card) or willingness to obtain.
