Systems Integration Engineer
Trusted Autonomous Systems (TAS) requires an experienced software engineer keen to work directly with TAS – a proven innovation specialist in the Robotics, Autonomous Systems and Artificial Intelligence (RAS-AI) domain – and our Defence and civil sector partners, to accelerate the transfer of RAS-AI technology into capability.
About Trusted Autonomous Systems
TAS is an innovation and R&D house uniquely equipped to deliver world-leading robotic and autonomous systems with artificial intelligence to enable trusted and effective cooperation between humans and machines. Our aim is to develop solutions that allow robotic and autonomous systems (RAS) to be deployed at scale in one-to-many applications and as part of complex human-machine teams, safely and effectively, to transform civil and military operations.
About the Position
TAS is looking for a skilled systems/digital integration engineer to support integration of data and systems across distributed tactical systems in the land, maritime and air domains.
You will lead TAS efforts to integrate fielded prototype sensing and effecting systems, with a focus on:
Low-latency integration of critical data needed to enable tactical operations as part of a military targeting cycle.
Physical integration of systems into mobility platforms.
As part of the TAS program, you will be expected to work in an agile innovation environment focussed on integration of multi-vendor field ready prototype systems as part of experimentation and development T&E.
You will work with the project lead and senior systems engineer to delivery outcomes in the short-term delivery (multiple integration events over 12-18 months), with key customer-critical milestones in October 2025, April 2026 and June 2026.
You will also contribute your expertise to the design and implementation of distributed and federated networking for scaled operations of robotic and crewed systems, working with cross-disciplinary teams under the direction of specific technical leads to enhance the multi-robot C2 technologies in development at TAS, supporting design, test and evaluation activities.
Responsibilities
Identifying integration requirements and developing solutions that meet performance expectations suitable for tactical applications
Ensuring that, wherever possible, integration solutions adhere to appropriate standards to ensure future interoperability as field ready prototypes move to acquisition
Engaging effectively with stakeholders (including product vendors and Defence) as part of the innovation cycle
Communicating design solutions through presentations, discussions and reports
Representing TAS at technical and project forums, and at networking events
Maintaining professional awareness of integration approaches and how they will impact TAS programs and communicating these to the TAS leadership
TAS is headquartered in Brisbane, and this is a Brisbane based position, although excellent candidates based in Sydney will be considered
The role is a full-time permanent position. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute during the early phases of a potentially significant expansion of TAS’ technical program.
Remuneration for this position is set at $150,000-$170,000 plus superannuation, dependent upon the experience and skills of the successful applicant.
About You
You must have a results-driven and proactive approach to development. To meet rapid development timeframes, you must be comfortable working collaboratively, making prioritisation decisions, and communicating risk. You are familiar with, or willing to learn about, command and control concepts and technologies as they apply to autonomous systems, heterogeneous teams, and Defence activities.
You will demonstrate flexibility in your contribution to development and deployment efforts and must be capable of ready discussion with stakeholders to ensure delivery in accordance with expectations. You should have sufficient experience to support independent work and the ability to make informed decisions on behalf of the software team to achieve project objectives.
Essential Requirements
Experience with mechanical and electrical integration of physical systems into vehicles and other mobility platforms
Experience with tactical information networking and integration, especially as it pertains to low-latency, wireless (RF) data transfer to support time-sensitive tactical applications, such as tactical targeting.
Experience with messaging protocols and conversions, and messaging standards associated with tactical targeting cycles.
An understanding of tactical C4ISR functions and architectures, relevant standards and protocols.
Experience with hardware/software integration.
Currently hold an AGSVA security clearance at NV1.
Desirable Requirements
Experience with rapid/agile development processes.
Experience with collaborative software development environments.
Experience with third-party product integration.
Familiarity with wireless WAN/LAN, Ethernet, VPN’s and various network topologies and how they support time-sensitive data transfer.
Application
To apply, submit applications via the Seek job listing. Applications must include a cover letter addressing the selection criteria, a CV, and two current references.
