About the area

The Directorate of Student Life sits within the UWA Education Portfolio, overseen by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Education & Student Experience. The Directorate has four core functions, Student Administration, Student Offices, Student Equity & Success, and Student Wellbeing & Engagement. The scope of services centre on the student journey, from the provision of student programs and activities that support and promote access to UWA, to student enrolment, course planning, transition, and progression through the lifecycle of study to graduation. The Directorate is also responsible for the delivery of services that promote academic success and support wellbeing and engagement for an enhanced student experience. Student Life works closely with the Student Guild, affiliated residential colleges and the wider UWA Education portfolio.

The division of Student Wellbeing and Engagement facilitates a high-quality student experience through the provision of integrated and comprehensive services. The division is responsible for the delivery of the UWA Mental Health and Wellbeing Framework and the UWA Safe, Respectful and Inclusive Communities Framework. Student Wellbeing and Engagement has six broad areas - tertiary prevention through the Complex Case Management team; early intervention, cohort initiatives and timely access to low barrier services through the Student Wellbeing team; counselling through the Psychology team; and the provision of a contemporary onboarding experience through the Student Engagement team; provide care and specialist support for international students through the International Student Support team and primary prevention programs and clinical response to gender-based violence through the Safe and Respectful Communities team.

About the opportunity

  • You will play key role in ensuring the overall safety, wellbeing, compliance, and academic success of international students under the age of 18
  • This role involves liaising with students, parents, guardians, homestay and residential college providers, and various internal and external stakeholders to provide comprehensive support in line with the University’s and the Australian government’s legislative framework, policies, and procedures.
  • You will coordinate and implement a range of support services in the area and serve as one of the primary contacts for international under-18 students.

About you

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or demonstrated equivalent competency.
  • Substantial relevant experience at an appropriate level, including a demonstrated knowledge of relevant policies and procedures for management of international students under the ESOS Act, National Code.
  • Substantial experience in working with younger students (under 18 years) from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues with discretion and professionalism, exercise sound judgement, and take accountability.

  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • National Police Clearance Check.
  • Occasional weekend or after-hours work may be required.
