The First Peoples' Energy branch is working with Traditional Owners to actively create economic, cultural and environmental value through the energy transition by developing policy and strategy, managing relationships and providing expert advice. Senior Policy Officer is a leader within the branch and responsible for the development of policy and reform implementation.

The position requires a strong understanding of the renewable energy sector, demonstrated problem-solving skills, demonstrated policy creation and review skills. A desirable candidate will maintain and establish strong stakeholder relationships and will be able to sustain a high level of drive and commitment, have integrity and resilience, and build trust through consistent actions, values and communication.

This position will support the Energy Group's commitments to recognise and invest in First Peoples' projects and aspirations for renewable energy, as well as Pupangarli Marnmarnepu.

This position is classified as an "identified position" aimed at increasing employment opportunities for Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People. The position requires an in-depth knowledge of Aboriginal culture and an ability to communicate with Aboriginal communities. Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • A tertiary qualification in law, public policy, economics or a related discipline is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experiences working with Traditional Owners, preferably related to natural resources, cultural heritage or energy management in Victoria.
  • Experience in using a range of strategies to drive self-determined outcomes is desirable.
  • Experience in energy policy is desirable but not necessary.
  • Experience in the development and amendment of legislation and/or regulations in a State or Commonwealth public service setting is highly desirable, but not essential.

This is a fixed term position available for a period of 2 years. The work location for this position is Nicholson St, Melbourne with hybrid work arrangements available.
