About the role

As the Leading Hand Urban Forest, you will be responsible for leading a small team in performing juvenile tree care, maintenance and establishment of the City’s street tree assets. Reporting to the Supervisor Urban Forest, this full-time permanent position also delivers exceptional service to community members through effectively actioning service requests.

A snapshot of your new role:

Lead a small team to carry out preliminary tree inspections, small tree removals, collection and disposal of branches, formative pruning, planting, mulching, staking and fertilising

Ensure daily maintenance and inspections of vehicles, plant and equipment

Safely use hand and power tools to formatively prune, shape and manage young trees

Accurately report and document team time-sheets and daily activities

Sound organisational skills - able to plan and prioritise work

Assist in responding to and investigating tree management enquiries from the community

Where appropriate, guide community members on tree care practices and preservation

Who we’re looking for:

Certificate III in Arboriculture or Horticulture (or working towards)

Current ‘C’ and ‘MR’ class driver’s license

Extensive knowledge and a passion for trees including species identification and growth habits

Well-developed team leadership skills and ability to foster team accountability and collaboration

Sound literacy and numeracy skills, including use of mobile digital technologies

Able to effectively communicate with community members on tree related issues

Physical stamina and the ability to perform manual labour in various weather conditions

White Card

Satisfactory National Police Clearance (under six months)

$1,497.58 per week or $39.41 per hour + super + penalties for overtime
