About the Role

Ngala is currently recruiting for Part-time Child Health Nurses and Registered Nurses interested in advancing their careers in Child Health to work Part-Time in the Residential Parenting Services (NRPS) team.

The NRPS operates 6 days over a 24-hour period. Work hours and days will vary depending on the service, and the position may involve shift work over a 24-hour period.

This role requires a high degree of flexibility, as shift assignments may vary across Day shifts, Evening shifts, and Night shifts, across Mondays through Sundays.

What You’ll Do

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Collaborate with parents to identify their strengths and enhance their ability to understand and care for their children.

• Employ active listening to help families articulate their goals in a respectful and supportive manner.

• Assess the health needs of both children and parents.

• Work with parents to create care plans with manageable, achievable steps toward their goals.

• Connect families with relevant community resources and Ngala services.

• Provide evidence-based information on child development and parent-child relationships.

What We’re Looking For

• Current AHPRA registration as an Enrolled Nurse or Registered Nurse.

• Qualifications in Child Health are highly desirable.

• 2 years post registration experience working with children

• Specialised knowledge in child and family health, including parenting and child development (0-18 years) and perinatal mental health.

• Understanding of contemporary social issues affecting children and families.

• Strong communication skills with a focus on listening and a strength-based approach.

• Experience in conflict resolution, negotiation, and working with families, parents, and children/adolescents.

• Knowledgeable in child health, early brain development, infant mental health, and topics like sleep, nutrition, and breastfeeding.

• Experience working with vulnerable families using a trauma informed approach.

• Hold or be willing to obtain a National Police Check issued within the last 6 months.

• Current Working with Children Check.
