The opportunity
We’re seeking a Senior Development Planner to join our collaborative team at Port Stephens Council. With a strong experience base, you will leverage you skills and experience to provide a high level of professional service to Council and the community with respect to the development and use of land.
Working alongside the Principal Development Planner, you will provide assistance to the Development Planning Coordinator, as well as our teams across Engineering, Natural Systems, Compliance and Building.
This is the perfect opportunity for an experienced Development Planner looking to take the next step in their career in a diverse and challenging role.
This is a permanent opportunity – working full-time 35 hours / week + access to a flexible working arrangement such as a 9-day fortnight
Base Salary Range: $100,407 to $118,126 pa based on 35 hours / week + 12% superannuation + $19,364 motor vehicle allowance + $2,464 retention allowance
You will be working from PSC Administration Building, Raymond Terrace

Development Assessment, including assessment of complex development applications and peer review of development applications for the Development Planners and Cadet Planner within the team
Provide a high level of Planning advice to internal stakeholders, the Regional Planning Panel, the Council, community and other Government agencies
Policy formulation/review, including preparation, review and amendment of Development Control Plans, Local Environmental Plans, and Council’s Policies and Procedures

A degree qualification in Planning or a related field
Demonstrated extensive knowledge of Planning and Development legislation including the Environmental Planning & Assessment Act 199 (NSW), the Local Government Act 1993 (NSW), Development Control Plans, Section 7.11/7.12 Contribution Plans, the Building Code of Australia and related legislation
Effective influencing and negotiation skills, including problem solving and conflict resolution
