Job Title: Factory Manager – Cabinetmaking and Joinery (Up to 80K Salary)

Position Overview - Position Status: Factory Manager - Reporting To: Operations Manager - Liaise With: Lead Drafter, factory staff, apprentices, tradesmen, installers, office team, clients, suppliers, and Purchasing Officer - Expected Hours: 6:30am – 3:00pm Monday to Thursday, 6:30am – 12:30pm Friday (38-hour week) - Pay/Rate: Up to 80K per year for the right applicant, plus tool allowance over $1,000 per year

Role Summary - This is a hands-on leadership role focused on managing factory operations, ensuring high quality and efficient production of complex joinery, and mentoring apprentices and tradesmen. You’ll be the go-to person for factory organisation, quality assurance, workflow coordination, and installation support. The role involves working with modern equipment including CNC and edge banding machines. We predominantly work within residential kitchens and bespoke joinery, alongside large-scale commercial fitouts for long-term clients. This is a fast-paced industry with firm deadlines, requiring the ability to adapt quickly and overcome challenges independently or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

1. Open and lead the factory daily, ensuring jobs and staff are ready to go

2. Supervise, train, and mentor apprentices and tradesmen, promoting skill development and safe practices

3. Read and interpret detailed joinery plans, ensuring build accuracy

4. Build and assemble high-end custom joinery to exacting standards

5. Monitor quality at all stages of production

6. Maintain a clean, safe, and organised factory environment

7. Operate and oversee the use of modern machinery including CNC routers and edge banders

8. Collaborate with the Purchasing Officer to maintain appropriate stock levels and ensure materials are on hand

9. Coordinate workflow and job scheduling with office/admin team

10. Liaise with installers and external suppliers to ensure timelines are met

11. Assist in joinery deliveries and provide oversight for installation by subcontractors

12. Identify and resolve issues that may affect production or quality, using initiative and teamwork

13. Ensure all machinery and tools are maintained and safe to use

14. Conduct toolbox talks and contribute to WHS compliance

15. Follow and improve factory processes and documentation

16. Represent the company professionally when dealing with clients or suppliers

17. Support continuous improvement in production methods and outcomes

18. Lead by example in punctuality, work ethic, and pride in craftsmanship

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) - Maintain 95%+ build accuracy on all joinery items (minimal rework) - Ensure 100% of jobs are completed to quality standards and on time - Maintain less than 2% defect/callback rate
