About Us
The Aboriginal Women & Children’s Crisis Service is a crisis accommodation service based in Inner West Sydney, supporting Aboriginal women and their children escaping domestic and/or family violence. We are committed to creating a culturally safe, healing-centred space for women and children in crisis.
About the Role
We are currently looking for an experienced Family Support Case Worker to join our team.
Key Duties will include:
- Provide culturally safe, trauma-informed, strengths-based case management and in-service support to women and children.
- Assist in client intake and assessment, ensuring a child-safe, child-friendly environment.
- Develop and facilitate programs to meet the needs of Aboriginal women and children experiencing or escaping family violence.
- Support clients with safety plans, referrals, advocacy, and practical assistance.
- Deliver crisis support and provide transport to clients when required.
- Work collaboratively with the Aboriginal community, other service providers, and external agencies to achieve positive outcomes for clients.
- Maintain up-to-date resources and best practice approaches for working with Aboriginal women and children.
- Maintain accurate and confidential case notes and client records.
- Participate in an on-call roster.
Requirements
We are seeking a candidate who:
- Has relevant experience or qualifications in social work, community services, or a related field.
- Understands the issues surrounding domestic and family violence and child protection.
- Is committed to trauma-informed, client-centred, and culturally safe practice.
- Holds a current unrestricted Australian driver’s licence.
- Holds or is willing to obtain a current Working with Children Check and a National Police Check
- Is willing to participate in on-call rosters.
- This role is a female-only position under Section 31 of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
Highly desirable (but not essential)
- Experience working in women’s homelessness, community-based organisations, or with Aboriginal communities.
- Understanding of current legislation relating to family violence and child safety.
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women are strongly encouraged to apply.
