Reporting to the Senior Financial Accountant, the Financial Accountant will work closely alongside the Senior Financial Accountant. The purpose of this role is to support the effective delivery of the financial accounting function to improve business and team outcomes through problem solving and process improvement.

Working in a highly collaborative manner with cross functional teams, the role will be responsible for delivering core financial accounting and support monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting processes.

We are looking for a compliance focused individual that is proactive in their approach and takes initiative.

Please note, this is a full time, permanent position. Flexibility is important to us, and we know it is to you, too - this role supports hybrid working.

Your part in our UnitingCare team

Undertake month end close processes and provide general ledger account analysis, reconciliation and prepare balance sheet reconciliations and resolve variances.

Undertake revenue and cost reporting and prepare high quality grant funding acquittals in line with internal and external deadlines, and contractual reporting requirements.

Proactively recommend and contribute to improvements to financial controls, processes and procedures that meet business and contractual requirements.

Assist with coordinating the review, approval and lodgement of grant funding acquittals across multiple and diverse stakeholders, and in line with contractual requirements.

Assist with the BAS and annual Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) return, as required and assist with preparation of financial reports for the organisation in accordance with relevant regulations, standards and contractual obligations.

Assist with internal and external audit activity and undertake contract reviews, interpret and recommend accounting treatment in line with accounting standards for grant income.

Develop, document and maintain policies and procedures relevant to the financial accounting and reporting accountabilities and responsibilities.

What makes a difference for us?

Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Business or a related field, either studying towards or completed CA/CPA.

Minimum 2 years’ experience within a Financial Accountant or Assistant Accountant role, ideally within a large, complex organisation.

Strong finance and accounting competency with demonstrated knowledge and understanding of accounting standards and legislation relevant to work environment.

Advanced MS Excel skills and experience with Microsoft PowerQuery, PowerPivot, PowerBI or Microsoft Dynamics 365 will be highly regarded.

Ability to work in a structured team and effectively contribute to outcomes through the use of sound problem solving skills and a logical, organised approach to work.

Strong investigation, interpretation and analysis skills.

Demonstrated experience in improving processes, with high attention to detail and accuracy; pro-active approach to tasks.

Strong communication, reasoning and stakeholder management skills including advanced listening, verbal and written skills and ability to communicate with non-financial managers.
