The First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria (the Assembly) is the voice of Aboriginal people in Victoria in the next stage of the Treaty process. It is made up of Victorian Traditional Owners, elected by Aboriginal Communities, for Aboriginal Communities, to advance our rights, interests and benefits.
The Assembly’s objective is to promote the self-determination and empowerment of Traditional Owners and Aboriginal Victorians through the Treaty process by:
Acting as the First Peoples’ Representative Body to negotiate and agree Statewide Treaty and Interim Agreements,
Acting as the Aboriginal Representative Body to support Treaty negotiations (including administering the Self-Determination Fund),
Enabling Traditional Owners and Aboriginal Victorians to exercise sovereignty, the right to self-determination and other rights; including those contained in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).

THE ROLE
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who will be responsible for engaging with local Aboriginal Communities, individuals, and organisations to share information and receive feedback on all things Treaty.
KEY DUTIES
Organise, plan and deliver Assembly events, including internal events and community-based outreach initiatives. This includes
Active participation or leading in working groups and cross departmental event planning to ensure a coordinated and strategic approach to engagement.
Assembly and Community Based outreach events include, but not limited to, Statewide Gatherings, Traditional Owner Forums, ACCO Forums, Regional Gatherings, NAIDOC Week events, prison visits and other culturally significant community engagement
Acting as a sounding board by listening to the feedback from the Aboriginal Community.
Promoting and encouraging the Aboriginal Community to join the electoral roll.
Analysis and presentation of community or post-event feedback to be reported for feedback loops discussions and actions.
Traveling across regions for events when needed.
Assisting with other ad hoc events.
Relationship management:
Build and maintain effective relationships with Assembly members, community members and stakeholders including being approachable, responsive, and available at events and in-office drop-in yarns.
Develop effective working relationships with other teams within the assembly.
Team and Office support:
Support the Community Engagement Manager and Engagement Team as directed.
Assist in creating and observing safe work practices in compliance with OH&S guidelines.
Merchandise organisation
Overseeing office supplies and receptionist duties when required.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Comprehensive knowledge of Victorian Aboriginal Communities
Experience working with the Victorian Aboriginal Community
Solid communication skills
Strong influencing skills
Working to challenging deadlines and following a plan
Being well organised
A collaborative and respectful approach
Being a creative problem solver
Familiarity with MS Office suite
Holds a full and unrestricted drivers license
Holds, or has the ability to obtain, a valid Victorian Working with Children Check (WWCC) as required pursuant to the Worker Screening Act 2020 (Vic), and for all staff as part of the Assembly’s commitment to child safety
SALARY & TERM
Fixed Term Contract ending 30 June 2026.
Salary from $82,512 per annum (full-time equivalent) plus superannuation plus salary packaging, based on experience and expertise.
Open to Full/Part-Time arrangement.
Location
This role is based in our Shepparton office and extends its reach across the North East region with some regional travels as required.
