Why You'll Be Excited About This Role

Imagine being the bridge between cutting-edge technology and the people who depend on it. As a Senior Technical Writer with The Services Company, you'll transform complex engineering specifications, operational procedures, and compliance requirements into documentation that literally saves lives and protects communities across Australia.

This isn't just another writing role – you'll be crafting critical documentation for government fleet operations that serve millions of Australians. Your words will guide the deployment, operation, and maintenance of sophisticated vehicles and equipment that respond to emergencies and protect our nation's infrastructure.

What makes this role extraordinary:

  • Lead documentation for mission-critical fleet assets worth millions of dollars
  • Work with advanced technologies including IoT systems, specialised vehicles, and state-of-the-art equipment
  • Create standards and practices that influence operations across multiple states
  • Collaborate with engineers, operational experts, and senior stakeholders on high-impact projects
  • Shape documentation frameworks that will be used for years to come
  • Maximum term employment contract for an ASAP start through June 2026. Full benefits and entitlements on offer.
What You'll Be Working On

You'll lead the creation and governance of comprehensive documentation suites that support complex fleet operations across multiple jurisdictions. Your work will span from detailed technical specifications to user-friendly operational guides.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Developing appliance specifications, inventory standards, and operational procedures for specialised fleet assets
  • Translating complex engineering requirements and compliance frameworks into accessible documentation
  • Creating and maintaining documentation templates for consistent use across operational teams
  • Managing version control and approval workflows using enterprise content management systems (HPE TRIM, SharePoint)
  • Collaborating with fleet engineers, procurement teams, and operational crews to validate technical content
  • Ensuring all documentation complies with Australian Design Rules, WHS legislation, and internal governance protocols
  • Contributing to project briefs, operational updates, and policy changes relating to fleet standards
  • Supporting appliance stowage and inventory design through clear, safety-focused documentation

You'll work with diverse stakeholders from technical engineers to frontline operational teams, ensuring documentation serves both compliance requirements and practical operational needs.

What Type of Person Will Succeed

We're looking for an experienced technical writer who combines exceptional writing skills with the ability to understand complex technical systems and translate them for diverse audiences. You should thrive in collaborative environments and take pride in creating documentation that truly matters.

You'll excel in this role if you have:

  • Advanced Diploma in technical communication, engineering, or related field, or equivalent expertise
  • Extensive experience developing technical documentation in compliance-heavy environments (government or emergency services preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and enterprise content management platforms
  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, compliance frameworks, and equipment safety protocols
  • Excellent collaboration skills and ability to work with diverse technical and operational teams
  • Experience with version control, approval workflows, and document governance processes
  • Understanding of asset lifecycle management and inventory control principles

Bonus points if you have experience with:

  • Government sector documentation standards and policy frameworks
  • Fleet management, vehicle specifications, or equipment procurement processes
  • Australian Design Rules and compliance certification processes
  • Emergency services or operational environment documentation

If you've been looking for a Technical Communication Specialist, Documentation Manager, or Technical Publications Lead role that offers genuine impact and career progression, we'd love to hear from you.
