Are you an experienced Azure Data and Analytics Specialist with a passion for large-scale ICT Data filled Data Warehouses and Lakes and able to future vison and Develop an Application Team around Analytics and Data Products and Processes, then Deliver cutting-edge Optimized Software solutions?

Our client is a key State Government Agency looking to onboard an experienced and skilled motivated Data Specialist / Azure Data Professional. Our client plays a pivotal role in advancing the ongoing future of Victoria’s Departmental and State Agencies through improved Science, Technology and Innovation.

This is an opportunity to join a collaborative, high-performing team, providing critical enabling services to both the department and Australian businesses.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Engineering & Warehousing:

Design and Architecture: Design, implement, and maintain scalable data warehouse solutions on the Azure platform, leveraging services like Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), and Azure SQL Database.

ETL/ELT Development: Build, test, and maintain robust data pipelines using Azure Data Factory and/or Azure Databricks to ingest, transform, and load data from diverse sources (structured, semi-structured, and unstructured).

Data Modeling: Develop and maintain data models (e.g., star schema, snowflake schema) that are optimized for performance, scalability, and reporting.

Data Governance & Quality: Implement data governance, security, and quality control processes to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of data within the data warehouse. (nice to have)

Performance Optimization: Proactively monitor and optimize the performance of data pipelines, queries, and data storage solutions to ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Business Intelligence & Analytics:

Reporting & Visualization: Create and maintain dynamic and user-friendly dashboards, reports, and data visualizations using tools such as Power BI.

Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with business units and stakeholders to gather and understand their data and reporting requirements, translating business needs into technical solutions.

Data Analysis: Conduct in-depth data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights that support strategic business decisions.

KPI Definition: Collaborate with stakeholders to define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics that align with business objectives.

Technical Skills & Qualifications:

Azure Platform: Proven experience with core Azure data services, including but not limited to:

Azure Synapse Analytics (Dedicated SQL Pools, Spark Pools)

Azure Data Factory

Azure Databricks

Azure Data Lake Storage (Gen2)

Azure SQL Database

Azure Purview (for data governance and cataloging is a plus)

BI Tools: Strong proficiency in Power BI, including Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, and Power BI Report Server.

Programming & Scripting: Expert-level proficiency in SQL (T-SQL) for complex data manipulation and querying. Experience with Python or Scala for data engineering tasks.

Data Concepts: Deep understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL/ELT processes, data modeling, and relational/non-relational databases.

Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex data issues and optimize processes.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.

10 years of experience in a data-focused role, with a strong background in data warehousing, data engineering, and/or business intelligence.

Hands-on experience with end-to-end data platform development on the Microsoft Azure cloud.

Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203) are highly desirable.
