(Full-Time)
**Title:** Bottle Shop & Bar Duty Manager — Purple Palate & Finbars
**Location:** Maleny, Sunshine Coast Hinterland (QLD)
**Employment type:** Full-time (38 hrs)
About us
Purple Palate (with Finbars next door) is a proudly independent bottle shop + bar known for great product curation, warm service,
and community-driven events. We’re growing the venue and need a performance-driven manager who loves both the retail and the bar floor—and is fired up to bring new faces through the door.
The opportunity
You’ll run day-to-day operations across the bottle shop and bar, own the weekly roster, keep the shelves tight and margins healthy,
and build a simple events/entertainment rhythm that grows revenue. You’ll have clear targets, the autonomy to hit them, and coaching when you want it.
What you’ll do
- Ordering & inventory: Forecast, place, and receive orders; negotiate promos; manage stock levels, pricing, and GP; run monthly stocktakes with minimal variance.
- Entertainment & events: Build a 6–8 week calendar (tastings, live music, trivia, brand pop-ups) and partner with local businesses to drive foot traffic.
- Roster & labour: Create the weekly bar roster to coverage & budget, balancing penalty rates and service standards; approve timesheets.
- Growth & community: Execute simple, repeatable plays to attract new clientele—tastings, collabs, VIP list building, flyers to nearby businesses, and basic social posts.
- Standards & compliance: Lead the floor by example; uphold RSA and venue policies; cash handling; opening/closing; tidy, well-merchandised retail displays.
What you’ll bring
- 2+ years in a bar, bottle shop, or venue leadership role (duty manager / assistant manager).
- Commercial mindset: you know your GP from your shrinkage, and you can hit a wage % target with a smart roster.
- People leadership: you coach, give feedback, and set the tone.
- Promotion chops: comfortable hosting tastings and talking to customers on camera or in-store.
- Systems: POS/inventory & rostering tools; competent in Excel/Sheets.
- Certs: Current RSA (mandatory). RMLV / Approved Manager (QLD) or willingness to obtain promptly.
- Availability for a mix of nights/weekends.
Pay & perks
- Hospitality Award Level 5 (F&B Supervisor): $29.88/hr + penalties + 12% super.
- Monthly performance bonus for sales above a clearly defined break-even target (uncapped).
- Staff discounts, real responsibility, and a pathway to greater venue leadership.
What success looks like (first 90 days)
- Labour within budget with a stable weekly roster and solid coverage.
- Stock on hand neat, priced right, and <1% stocktake variance.
- A simple entertainment calendar running (tastings/live acts) with measurable uplift in transactions or average spend.
- A growing customer list (emails/loyalty sign-ups) and repeat-visit momentum.
