If this is a role where you will take ownership and lead and motivate staff in collaboration with the Supervising Scientist Coagulation in special coagulation and provide continuous upskilling, support and mentorship to scientific staff that work within special coagulation work unit.
Develop, plan, perform and provide scientific evaluation and validation of new principles, procedures, techniques, methods and analysers or modifications of existing practices.
Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated high level scientific knowledge and skills in routine and complex coagulation testing and investigations as recognised by experience and leadership within a specialised coagulation laboratory and formal qualifications.
- Demonstrated high level knowledge, skills, performance, and experience in the scientific aspects of routine and specialised coagulation investigations, which may include but not limited to complex coagulation testing such as factors inhibitors, thrombophilia/Lupus, platelet aggregation, von Willebrand, HITT and ADAMTS13.
- Demonstrated ability to apply high-level scientific skills to perform, interpret and report laboratory testing in coagulation.
- Demonstrated ability to solve and investigate complex scientific coagulation problems.
- Demonstrated ability or the ability to develop skills in the development and validation of coagulation testing and coagulation analysers.
- Demonstrated independent application of scientific expertise to lead service quality and improvements in coagulation practices and contribute to training, professional development, and technical competency activities.
- Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and to work independently and collaboratively to produce effective work output and quality in a highly process driven environment with competing priorities.
- Ability to develop skills in the management of the performance and operation of the scientific workload, resource allocation and assist with the management of other staff.
- Demonstrated ability to apply high level scientific coagulation knowledge, clinical judgement, and skills to provide advice to colleagues, clients, and supervisory management stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively by utilising interpersonal skills to build and maintain professional relationships with clients and colleagues and to align a team and influence the culture.
- Demonstrated contributions and leadership role in; the quality of clinical practice within coagulation, quality assessments, maintenance of quality management relevant legislative, administrative, and professional standards, and to NATA/ISO accreditation/certification.
- Awareness of the human resource management policies applicable to contemporary workplaces.
Qualifications, registrations and other requirements
- The successful applicant must hold a Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) degree, or an equivalent degree qualification.
