Your Opportunity

Are you passionate about preventing, investigating, and responding to illegal dumping incidents in the Southern Downs community? This could be the job for you!

This position is responsible for investigating and responding to various illegal dumping matters across the Southern Downs region. This also entails targeting problematic and complex illegal dumping incidents. You will also be required to carry out enforcements, and create an appropriate system for illegal dumping.

Term: Fixed-term contract of up to 12 months

Hours of Work: 72.5 hours per fortnight

Pay Level: $3061.70 to $3258.83 per fortnight (Level 4), plus 12% superannuation and 17.5% annual leave loading

In accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement and the relevant Award. Pay rate dependent on relevant skills and experience.

Employment Base: Warwick or Stanthorpe, Queensland (will be negotiated with successful candidate)

About the Directorate

The Communities, Planning and Environmental Services Directorate

The Communities, Planning and Environmental Services Directorate has recently been realigned to create one team that puts the community at the heart of all of Council’s services. This realignment has provided the Directorate with an outward focus on customer centric service delivery.

The Directorate consists of three (3) departments that include:

  • Community and Customer Service
  • Planning and Development
  • Environmental Services

The Directorate deliver services, programs and projects that make a difference to our community in line with Council’s direction and supporting strategies. The Southern Downs Regional Council 2021-2026 Corporate Plan outlines the foundation that guides how Council prioritises and delivers services and programs to the community.

The complete Key Responsibilities of this role can be found in the Position Description. These include (but are not limited to):

  • Investigate and respond to illegal dumping incidents as an authorised person under the Waste Reduction & Recycling Act & Regulation;
  • Review surveillance cameras and equipment and implement suitable tools to assist with reducing illegal dumping incidents;
  • Contribute to the production of a new education campaign and continue to educate the community;
  • Carry out enforcement and education in relation to illegal dumping.

What You Will Need

To be considered for this role, you will need:

Qualifications / Licenses – Mandatory

  • Environmental Health or Compliance experience in conducting investigations, gathering evidence, initiating enforcement action, reporting and educating the community
  • Current QLD ‘C’ Class drivers licence

Vaccinations – Mandatory

  • Immunisation record indicating Hepatitis A&B and Q Fever vaccinations or immunity; or the ability to be vaccinated in accordance with Council’s Immunisation Procedure
  • The legal right to live and work in Australia
  • Comply with the Work Health and Safety Act, Regulations, Codes of Practice and Council’s Workplace Health and Safety Policies and Procedures
  • Comply with instructions given by the relevant manager and/or supervisor in respect of the health and safety of themselves and the health and safety of other persons.
  • Good working knowledge of Waste Reduction and Recycling Act and Regulations or the ability to quickly acquire
  • High level skills in inspections, sampling, survey, collection of data and implementation of various correction measures
  • Understanding or ability to quickly acquire understanding of the policies and operations of the Directorate and other relevant areas of Council
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively within a team environment
  • To be able to demonstrate your competence in relation to all of the Selection Criteria as detailed in the Position Description
