Trainee Manager – Health, Fitness & Wellbeing

Location: Nightcliff, Darwin NT

Employment Type: Full-time (with training and career progression)

Salary: $55,000–$70,000 + performance incentives

About Us

Ahvana is Nightcliff’s hub for holistic health, fitness, and wellbeing: offering Functional Strength Training, Conditioning, Boxing, Yoga, Pilates, meditation, and community events. Our trauma-aware approach blends science and ancient wisdom to support the body, mind, and nervous system. We are expanding and looking for a motivated and people-focused Trainee Manager to join our leadership pathway. This role is ideal for someone who wants to combine a passion for health and fitness with leadership development, business management skills, and community building.

The Role

As a Trainee Manager, you’ll work alongside our leadership team to learn the operational, training, coaching, marketing, sales, event planning and management and the strategic aspects of running a successful fitness and wellness studio. This role requires you to have a roll up the sleeve, positive and hands on attitude just like the rest of us in the team!

You will develop skills and knowledge in

Member engagement – building strong relationships, providing exceptional customer service, and ensuring members feel supported in their health journey.

Operational management – learning scheduling, rostering, basic HR, stock management, reporting, and compliance.

Fitness leadership – delivering or assisting in group fitness sessions and personal training.

Business growth – assisting with social media, marketing, events, and community outreach.

Your responsibilities will include: (you can categorize it for easier reading)

Coaching & Member Engagement

· Leading and assisting in group fitness sessions and fitness programs (functional Strength training, Conditioning, and if interests and skilled boxing or kickboxing)

· Supporting members with correct technique, modifications, and motivation.

· Conduct introductory sessions and member onboarding.

Operations & Administration

· Scheduling, rostering, member onboarding and basic administration (with support from admin staff).

· Maintain studio presentation, cleanliness, and equipment upkeep.

· Monitor member check-ins, attendance, and feedback.

· Supporting any other day-to-day operations

Marketing, Events & Community

· Supporting and assisting with social media, events, promotions and online engagement.

· Managing and assisting with open days, and community events.

· Providing exceptional member service and building community connections

· Help develop partnerships with local businesses and organisations.

Leadership Development

· Shadow the Studio Manager in decision-making, problem-solving, and team leadership.

· Learn key business metrics and how to manage budgets, targets, and performance goals in order to progress into a management position.

What We’re Looking For

• Passion for health, fitness, and community wellbeing

• Strong communication and people skills

• Willingness to learn and take initiative

• Experience in fitness, wellbeing, or hospitality is a plus (but not essential)

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Attitude

- Passion for health, fitness, and holistic wellbeing.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

- Strong organisational skills and a proactive mindset.

- Certificate III in Fitness

Desirable Qualifications Or willingness to obtain them

· Certificate IV in Fitness / Personal Training

· Yoga, Pilates, or Meditation certification/experience

· Boxing/Kickboxing coaching skills

· First Aid & CPR Certification

· Experience in fitness, wellbeing, retail, or hospitality
