The Communications and Electronic Support (CESS) Section, more commonly known as Technical Workshop, is a service area within the Business and Operational Support Services portfolio that delivers a 24/7 response, providing a high-level specialist technical support service and advice in telecommunications, mission-critical radio, and specialist electronic services to frontline operational members and civilian employees for the NT Police and NT Fire and Emergency Service. CESS also supports both agencies, NT Government, federal and state agencies in times of natural and manmade disasters, recovery and deployment in response to operations.

About the opportunity:

There is currently one permanent position for immediate filling.

The Communications and Electronic Support Services Section is seeking an experienced candidate who is passionate in building a career as a Technical Officer in a dynamic government agency.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with frontline agencies on a range of communication platforms and with a multitude of specialist electronic devices. In this role you will be responsible for providing specialist technical communications and electronic systems support to ensure electronic systems and devices (telecommunications, mission-critical radio and electronic devices) are available and operational at all times. The position deploys to locations across the NT in emergency situations to deliver critical equipment and solve issues as part of whole-of-government disaster response and recovery functions.

The position is responsible for the installation and maintenance of new and existing communications and electronic equipment, as well as develop and manage equipment maintenance schedules, conduct routine maintenance, calibration and ad-hoc repairs. The position is required to have detailed understanding of the full range of systems and devices in use, in order to troubleshoot and provide training to frontline end-users.

The position trials new electronic equipment and systems to assess suitability against the agency’s needs and legislated responsibilities and provides advice about emerging products and issues.

We are looking for individuals with:

Enthusiasm and a passion for the repair, maintain and service of communications and electronic equipment and systems.

Be innovative and provide technical advice about communications systems and electronic equipment and has the initiative to learn new skills and functionalities of experimental equipment.

Qualifications such as an Associate Diploma in Electronics and Communications, and/or a Trade Certificate Electronics or Radio Fitter, Certificate IV in Electro Technology or equivalent or be working towards one of these qualifications is essential.

Working in a frontline support section offers a number of allowances and entitlements that may be of interest to you. This includes but is not limited to, NT allowance, 6 weeks annual leave (pro rata), and after an appropriate training period, being rostered on-call attracting an on-call allowance and appropriate overtime payment.
