The Role
Do you have what it takes to contribute to the development of new policy that will help set the future strategic direction of Defence strategic capabilities and technologies?
Do you have aptitude for or experience in policy development, an eye for identifying strategic implications in complex material, building relationships with subject matter experts, and working under limited direction?
Strategy, Policy, and Industry Group is seeking motivated and capable individuals to join our team in a number of Divisions. We are looking for people with a keen interest in national security, with some experience or strong aptitude in technology, complex policy or national security.
In these roles, you would support the development of strategic policy, contribute to high-quality advice to senior leaders and Government, and help shape international engagement in emerging capability areas.
About our Team
Strategic Policy Division shapes strategic direction for Defence, addresses future capability challenges with policy and advice, and works at the intersection of technology, national security and international relations. We address strategic risks and collaborate across Government to ensure strategy, capability and resources are aligned to the priorities in the National Defence Strategy. Our purpose is to deliver meaningful policy, guidance, and strong collaborative relationships to enable Government to make sound decisions.
AUKUS Advanced Capabilities Division is driving development of next generation technologies for the ADF under Pillar Two of the AUKUS Partnership. We focus on quantum technologies, artificial intelligence, electronic warfare, undersea warfare, hypersonics and cyber. We work across Defence, other Government agencies and with our US and UK counterparts. Our goal is to integrate and simplify the frameworks that underpin our technology and capability systems giving us access to options beyond what any one nation could achieve alone.
Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidates are proactive team players with excellent judgement, analytic skills and initiative. We’re looking for great communicators (written and verbal) with excellent stakeholder skills.
Both Strategic Policy Division and AUKUS Advanced Capabilities Division deliver considered, clear and productive policy advice. The Divisions develop advice on capabilities such as long range strike, undersea warfare, autonomous systems, quantum technologies, artificial intelligence, electronic warfare, hypersonics, space and cyber.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the alignment of Defence’s strategic capability decisions and use with Government direction and priorities.
- Coordination and preparation of high quality advice for Defence senior leaders and Government.
- Supporting Defence’s participation in whole-of-Government and international policy forums.
- Contributing to the development of policy and advice to integrate strategic technologies into Defence.
