Join our friendly and professional specialist eye care team at Northern Sydney Cataract. You will be supporting seven ophthalmic surgeons. This part-time role combines clinical testing (OCT, visual fields, patient pre-testing) with front-desk reception duties (bookings, payments, patient enquiries, surgical lists, medical correspondence) in a supportive, fast-paced ophthalmology practice.

We’re looking for someone with at least 1 year’s experience in medical reception or ophthalmic/optometry support, excellent communication skills, and a genuine passion for patient care.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Ophthalmic Technician / Allied Health Assistant / Receptionist to join our busy and friendly team at Northern Sydney Cataract in Northbridge. This part-time position involves providing both clinical and administrative support to our specialist ophthalmology practice, ensuring our patients receive exceptional, seamless care from start to finish.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical support

Perform a variety of diagnostic tests and procedures under the supervision of an ophthalmologist, including OCT scans, visual field testing, and other standard assessments.

Prepare examination rooms, sterilise instruments, and ensure all equipment is ready for use.

Assist with patient education and follow-up instructions.

Administrative and Reception Duties

Greet and welcome patients, ensuring a professional and friendly first impression.

Manage patient bookings, confirmations, recalls, and appointment changes.

Answer incoming phone calls, respond to patient enquiries, and manage email correspondence.

Process payments, issue receipts, and handle Medicare and health fund claims.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in the practice management system.

Support day-to-day office operations, including scanning, filing, and correspondence.

Candidate Requirements

Minimum 1 year of prior experience as a medical receptionist or ophthalmic technician, ideally in an ophthalmology or optometry practice, with sound knowledge of eye care procedures and terminology.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both patients and team members.

Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a busy clinical environment.

Competence in using medical practice management software (e.g. Shexie or similar).

A caring, empathetic nature and a genuine passion for high-quality patient care.
