About the role
This is a senior role within a high-performing team focused on the future of gas and coal power generation. You will provide strategic advice, develop policy solutions, and lead projects that support the shift to a low-emissions energy system. The work is broad, challenging and meaningful, requiring strong judgement, clear thinking, and a confident approach to managing priorities and people.

What you will do

Lead complex research and policy work on electricity reliability and power generation.

Distil complex data and analysis into clear, practical policy advice.

Draft high-quality written material including cabinet submissions and ministerial briefings.

Manage and mentor staff, support work planning and deliver to tight deadlines.

Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to align policy efforts.

Advise senior leaders and decision-makers with confidence and clarity.

What you will bring

Experience in the energy sector or related policy areas is highly regarded for this role.

Strong policy experience and the ability to manage complexity with a calm, solutions-focused mindset.

Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal – for a range of audiences.

Ability to manage workstreams, prioritise effectively and keep projects on track.

A collaborative approach with the ability to build trust and credibility with stakeholders.

Initiative, sound judgement, and a drive to produce quality outcomes under pressure.
