  • Location available - Lismore and Port Macquarie (travel required)
  • Temporary 12-month opportunity with possible extension (Full-time 35 HPW)
  • Clerk Grade 1/2, Base Salary ($75,728 - $82,329) plus Employers' contribution Superannuation and Annual Leave Loading

Your role

As a Court Officer in the NSW Office of the Sheriff, you will be responsible for providing day-to-day operational support within a functioning fast paced courtroom environment.

At the Office of the Sheriff of New South Wales, we conduct law enforcement, security, and support activities to ensure the safe and successful operation of state courts. We also administer the NSW jury service system, a massive operation which involves more than 200,000 citizens each year. More than 400 specially trained sheriff's officers, court officers and clerical staff are employed at 58 sheriff's offices across the state.

What you'll do

This includes but is not limited to:

  • Data entry
  • Courtroom support
  • Jury support
  • Management and the facilitation of courtroom operations, including technology

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • High-level data entry accuracy and attention to detail
  • Adaptability and flexibility to respond to changing priorities and work across various jurisdictions and court locations.
  • Strong multitasking and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and integrity, always upholding the standards of the Court and the jury process.

Essential requirements

  • Successful completion of the Court Officer Induction Program within 12 months of commencement.
  • Successful completion of mandated training requirements for Court Officers set by the NSW Sheriff's Office, as varied from time to time.
  • Candidates must hold a valid Australian Driver's Licence. Circuit and relieving staff are required to possess a current Drivers Licence and be willing to travel, including overnight stays.

Appointments are subject to reference checks. Some roles may also require the following checks/ clearances:

  • National Criminal History Record Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014.
  • Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012.
