Qualifications & experience
- Mandatory Requirements
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Current CPR (annual)
- National Police Children Check (less than 6 months old or willingness to obtain)
- Current Working with Children’s Check (or willingness to obtain)
- Current Australian Driver’s License
- Road registered vehicle with full comprehensive insurance.
Desirable
- Certificate III in Disability, Welfare, Individual Support or equivalent.
- Six (6) months + relevant experience in disability support services.
- Flexibility and availability to work across a varying, rotating roster - 24 hour a day, 7 days a week.
Tasks & responsibilities
As a complex disability support worker, your role involves providing assistance, care, and support to individuals with complex needs. Here are some tasks and responsibilities typically associated with this role:
Personal Care: Assist with personal hygiene tasks such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding, ensuring dignity and respect for the individual at all times.
Mobility Assistance: Provide support with mobility aids, transfers, and positioning to ensure the safety and comfort of the individual. This may involve the use of lifting equipment or specialized techniques.
Medication Management: Administer medications as prescribed, following proper protocols and maintaining accurate records. Monitor for any side effects or changes in health status and report to relevant healthcare professionals.
Health Monitoring: Regularly monitor vital signs, observe for any signs of discomfort or distress, and promptly address any health concerns or emergencies that may arise.
Behavioral Support: Employ positive behavior support strategies to assist individuals in managing challenging behaviors. Develop and implement behavior management plans in collaboration with the individual, their support network, and behavioral specialists.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of all interactions, observations, care provided, and any changes in the individual's condition or needs. Complete required reports and documentation in a timely manner.
Professional Development: Stay updated on best practices, advancements in disability support, and relevant policies and regulations. Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
