The Opportunity

There is an opportunity for an experienced Maternal and Child Health Nurse to lead the MCH Programs Team. This role oversees the Immunisation service, Lactation service, Sleep and Settling and Parent Education Programs. This role works with the Maternal and Child Health Manager and MCH Leadership Team, in the implementation and application of service best practice.

The position will report directly to the Manager Maternal and Child Health. If you are an experienced MCH nurse, and passionate mentor with a strategic eye for supporting a growing community, then this job is for you. As part of the MCH leadership team you will help shape the future of our service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create a high-performance team culture characterised by empowerment, trust and respect through effective leadership, coaching and high-quality supervision.
  • Provide clinical practice support for practitioners working within the Maternal and Child Health and Immunisation service and undertake clinical sessions as required.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and monitoring of forward leaning policies and procedures as well as a plan that strongly positions the Maternal and Child Health and Immunisation services for population growth.
  • Deliver and contribute to Council goals as outlined in the Council Health and Wellbeing Plan and the Melton: A City for All People Plan.
  • Make decisions on the day to day running of the Maternal and Child Health services; specifically; new parent groups, parent information session, lactation support and sleep and settling support and the Council’s Immunisation service, ensuring optimum outcomes and continuous improvement in all aspects of service delivery, Government policy, National Immunisation Program Schedule relating to local government and the Maternal and Child Health program standards.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  • Current Registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and must hold qualifications in Maternal and Child Health nursing that are recognised in Victoria.
  • Be a qualified Maternal and Child Health Nurse.
  • Preferably have experience in an MCH leadership role.
  • Experience in all aspects of the Maternal and Child Health and Immunization services with strong knowledge and understanding of current theory and practice and legislative issues relevant to the service.
  • Strong team engagement skills to drive an emotionally intelligent, supportive and high-performance culture.
  • Work independently and make clear, precise, and evidence-based decisions, using service data related to the day-to-day operation of the service.
  • Current valid Victorian Driver’s Licence.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain an Employee Working with Children Check.
