About the Role
As the Media Advisor, you will play a key role in managing Council’s external media relations and public reputation. You will be responsible for identifying and leveraging media opportunities, managing media requests, writing compelling media materials.
You will also work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver proactive and reactive communications strategies that reflect Council’s values and vision.
What you’ll do?
- Develop and implement media strategies that promote Council initiatives and services
- Build strong relationships with local, metro, and national media outlets
- Draft high-quality medial releases, talking points and responses to media enquiries
- Monitor media coverage and provide media analysis and advice to senior staff and stakeholders
- Support crisis communications and issues management
- Collaborate with internal teams to identify stories that matter to our diverse community
What you’ll bring?
To be successful in this role, you will have :
- Tertiary qualifications in journalism, public relations, marketing, communications or related fields and minimum 3 years' experience.
- Strong news sense and proven ability to work with media outlets and networks to handle media inquiries and write and issue media responses and press releases.
- Experience in researching and drafting high quality speeches for a range of events and audiences.
- Demonstrated experience in implementing media strategies and in media related issues management.
- Excellent English skills and the ability to apply these skills to writing for varied audiences and purposes eg. editorials, publications, social media.
- Strong research and analytical skills complemented by creative thinking, assessing and dealing with issues using sound judgment and sensitivity.
- Developed networking and problem-solving skills underpinned by an appreciation of political and consultative environments.
- Self-managed and independent with a demonstrated ability to work to competing deadlines
