The Sparrow Centre for Children practices a strengths-based trauma-informed approach. We are passionate about using play-based approaches in supporting a child’s mental health, development and well-being. This position is responsible for the provision of interventions to children 3+. The position is offered on a contract or casual employee basis, two days a week.

What we are looking for:

Tertiary qualification in Social Work, eligible for membership with AASW.

Demonstrated understanding of the core components of paediatric mental health social work i.e. child interventions, family support work, parent coaching etc. This includes the ability to plan and deliver social work assessment, interventions, case management and discharge planning of children and adolescents.

Effective written and verbal communication skills, including report writing, note taking and communicating with children, carers, teachers and colleagues.

Knowledge of child safe practices and the capacity to assess and respond to child safety and wellbeing with various stakeholders.

Solid understanding of family-centred and strengths-based care and trauma-informed approaches.

Experience working with children/adolescents with disability and/or complex developmental, social-emotional and behavioural challenges.

Strong therapeutic skills with a variety of evidence-based modalities

Professional indemnity insurance and ABN (if contracting).

Current Police Check, Working With Children's Check, NDIS Worker Screening Check.

Desirable:

EMDR training or accreditation.

Child Centred Play Therapy training, accreditation or membership with APTA or APPTA.

Graduate Diploma or above in Psychotherapy or Counselling.
