Position summary
The Tenancy Assistance and Advocacy Program (TAAP) Worker position provides a support service across the Barwon Region for people renting in the private housing sector who have been assessed at risk with regard to their housing.
The TAAP Worker provides a quality tenancy service to financially disadvantaged Victorians and or victims of family violence through information and referral, negotiation and Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) assistance including advocating for tenants at VCAT hearings.
This position will be contracted on a maximum term basis until 10 October 2025, working 22.5 - 38 hours per week, depending on the availabilities of the successful candidate.
Duties
- To provide support and assessment of client’s eligibility for a service at intake within the triage and intake system.
- To provide thorough information / options, and implications of those options, to clients in relation to their Tenancy issues.
- To identify critical needs of the client, and service options, and provide support accordingly.
- To assist clients to develop skills and strategies to address tenancy issues.
- Provide advocacy and negotiation on behalf of eligible clients as required.
- Assist tenants to prepare and understand VCAT processes and assist at VCAT with information, negotiation, preparation, submission and representation as appropriate.
- Attend at VCAT as a duty advocate for Tenancy Hearings where required.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma of Community Services.
- Tenancy Training with regard to the Residential Tenancies Act 1997. Currency of training should be demonstrated.
- Community Development experience.
- Have well developed service delivery skills including assessment, counselling, referral, advocacy and community education.
