Currently, there are around 5.5 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 717,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.
A new role awaits
We have an incredible opportunity to join the Justice Liaison Team as APS6 Justice Liaison Officer providing timely and effective assistance to external mainstream justice stakeholders, working alongside people with a disability, who intersect with the justice system. Our aim is to ensure people with a disability have the disability supports they require whilst in custody, and to support their transition into the community.
This position is also being advertised as Affirmative Measures – Disability and Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander.
Affirmative measure positions are to improve employment opportunities in the Australian Public Service.

Not every day will be the same and being adaptable is the key to success. We are looking for a candidate who has:
Essential:
- Disability related background
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong liaison skills for interacting with external stakeholders, internal staff and the management team
- Competence in using office software (eg: Microsoft Office Suite)
Desirable:
- Knowledge of criminal justice and forensic systems; State and Territory Government mainstream services
- Familiarity with relevant legislation, regulations and policy frameworks that govern the NDIA
- Highly evolved complex case management skills and able to prioritise accordingly
- Experience working in justice facilities
- Drivers Licence

The ideal candidate will have experience engaging in stakeholder contact, dealing with complex, difficult, and sensitive issues with a high degree of autonomy and professionalism, in public facing positions, which may require the JLO to work from justice and forensic settings e.g. prisons, youth detention centres and forensic hospitals.

This role may be performed from these key locations WA - Perth, Broome, Northam, Geraldton, VIC - Moonee Ponds, NSW - Tweed Head, Surry Hills, Parramatta, Penrith, Hurstville, Blacktown, Campbelltown, Burwood, ACT - Deakin, QLD - Cairns, Townsville, NT - Darwin, Alice Springs, SA - Port Augusta, Whyalla and TAS - Hobart, Launceston. Other remote locations may be considered.
We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.
Work Sample Assessments will be included as part of this process.
