Position: Contract Specialist

Location: Fortitude Valley

Employment Type: Mon – Fri, 38 hrs a week until Jan 2026 with possibility of extension

Payrate: $59/hr

Maxima is currently seeking various highly motivated individuals as Contract Specialist for one of our government clients.

The Contract Specialist is responsible for the end-to-end administration of multiple high-value (up to $70M p.a.) and high-volume (50–100 active projects) contracts. This role ensures contractual compliance, maintains strong contractor relationships, provides commercial guidance and supports delivery of infrastructure programs. Success is driven by proactive issue resolution, digital enablement, and efficient cost control.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and interpret complex infrastructure contracts, ensuring compliance with terms, approved variations, and governance frameworks.
• Establish and maintain cost tracking systems, review monthly payment claims, prepare accruals, and support accurate financial reporting and budgeting.
• Prepare and issue authorised service packages and variations, ensuring documentation meets project budgets and delegated financial authority.
• Monitor contractor performance, review KPI compliance, assess variations and pain/gain claims, and negotiate resolution of unjustified supplier claims.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and external contractor teams to ensure smooth contract delivery.
• Identify opportunities to improve contract administration processes and contribute to digital enablement and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Analyse and validate complex commercial claims and rate changes, escalating or resolving them to avoid unnecessary costs and ensure value for money.
• Develop and deliver detailed reporting on claims, contract performance, and savings achieved through negotiation or contract enforcement.

What We’re Looking For:

• Tertiary qualifications in Contract Management, Construction, Engineering, Finance, Quantity Surveying, or equivalent professional experience.
• Must be able to draft complex Contract Notices, be expert in excel and contract administration/management.
• 3–6 years of experience in contract management, particularly in major infrastructure design and delivery.
• Proven track record in performance analysis, KPI assessment, and claims review.
• Experience with TCE, ECI, collaborative frameworks, and infrastructure procurement.
• Strong knowledge of digital systems for contract and financial management.
• Familiarity with asset-based work breakdown structures and project controls.
• A current Queensland ‘C’ Class driver’s licence
• Possession (or willingness to obtain) a police check
