
Medial Laboratory Scientist Core Haematology

The Core Haematology laboratory performs full blood counts, blood film morphology, ESRs, malarial parasite screening, pre-analytical bone marrow procedures and includes the Malaria Reference Laboratory for confirmation of positive cases from across Queensland; together with routine coagulation testing, factor assays, foetomaternal haemorrhage, haemoglobinopathy and haemolytic disorders.
Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- Experience in the performance of Haematology and Coagulation testing and investigations.
- Theoretical knowledge and understanding of Haematology and Coagulation principles and procedures.
- Proven ability to work independently, solve problems and show initiative in the workplace.
- Well-developed communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Understanding of laboratory quality systems and the requirements of NATA accreditation and ISO certification.
- Awareness of the human resource management policies applicable to contemporary workplaces.
- The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the continuous shift roster and will be required to work a combination of day, afternoon, and overnight shifts within each fortnight.
Qualifications, registrations and other requirements
- Minimum qualification for Health Practitioner Level 3 (HP3 Clinical):
The successful applicant must hold a relevant degree in science or equivalent from a recognised University or other tertiary institution.
- Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and/or registration with the appropriate registration authority, including any necessary endorsements, to be provided to the employing service prior to the commencement of service. Overseas applicants are reminded that assessment of equivalence of qualifications is required.
- The Central Core Laboratory delivers a 24-hour, 7-day service. All newly appointed Core Laboratory staff are engaged with the understanding that they may be required to work any rostered shift within the 24-hour 7-day roster period, including overtime as required. This facilitates the progressive review of staffing and shift arrangements in the Core Laboratory to accommodate changes in workload and service requirements.
