About the Role
Melbourne Polytechnic is seeking a passionate Koorie Liaison Officer to support the delivery of culturally safe and inclusive education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. This role plays a vital part in strengthening community relationships, enhancing cultural competency across the institute, and embedding Indigenous perspectives into curriculum and learning environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide cultural support to teaching teams and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
- Deliver cultural awareness and safety training to staff
- Liaise with teaching teams to embed Indigenous content into curriculum
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations
- Attend and report on community events
- Coordinate culturally relevant student activities and events
- Maintain data and contribute to strategic planning for Indigenous student support
- Promote cultural safety and inclusiveness across Melbourne Polytechnic
Skills and Experience Required
- Relevant qualifications and/or minimum three years' experience in education or Koorie organisational sector
- Strong knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and community networks
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and report writing skills
- Demonstrated ability to enhance cultural competency and inclusiveness in education
- Strong community connections to support student outcomes
- Highly desirable: Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or willingness to obtain
Additional Requirements
This is an identified role open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants.
Successful candidate will be required to provide:
- A valid Victorian Employee Working with Children Check (WWCC)
- A National Police Check
