About the Role

Melbourne Polytechnic is seeking a passionate Koorie Liaison Officer to support the delivery of culturally safe and inclusive education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. This role plays a vital part in strengthening community relationships, enhancing cultural competency across the institute, and embedding Indigenous perspectives into curriculum and learning environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide cultural support to teaching teams and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
  • Deliver cultural awareness and safety training to staff
  • Liaise with teaching teams to embed Indigenous content into curriculum
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations
  • Attend and report on community events
  • Coordinate culturally relevant student activities and events
  • Maintain data and contribute to strategic planning for Indigenous student support
  • Promote cultural safety and inclusiveness across Melbourne Polytechnic

Skills and Experience Required
  • Relevant qualifications and/or minimum three years' experience in education or Koorie organisational sector
  • Strong knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and community networks
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and report writing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to enhance cultural competency and inclusiveness in education
  • Strong community connections to support student outcomes
  • Highly desirable: Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or willingness to obtain

Additional Requirements

This is an identified role open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants.

Successful candidate will be required to provide:

  • A valid Victorian Employee Working with Children Check (WWCC)
  • A National Police Check
